Christians look forward to the time of the year when we celebrate two important holidays, Thanksgiving and Christmas. These holidays have their beginnings and roots in Christian celebrations. The word holiday actually means “holy day”; hence these events should be remembered and celebrated in a holy manner. We have strayed from that purpose over the years as we have embraced many unholy practices and worldly customs and added them to our “holy days.”

Compromises as Christians in Celebrating Thanksgiving Day

Thanksgiving is one of our main national holidays here in the USA. A good question to ask is “Are we as Christians celebrating it the way the Lord would have us celebrate, or have we compromised with the world?” Have we lost the emphasis on thanksgiving and prayer and shifted it to a gluttonous feast of food, drink and games like those in the world have done? God wants us to enjoy family, friends and feasting, but leaving God out of the day breaks His heart. More and more the media is referring to this holiday as “turkey day” instead of Thanksgiving Day. They also eliminate the object of who we are to offer our thanks. We are just to be “thankful” we are told. Who should our thanks be directed to? The object of our thanks for our many blessings should be directed to the Lord God. It should not just be a general “thanks.”

We must all be witnesses in order to change the worldly thinking in our culture if our children and families are to live in a world that promotes peace and godliness.

Acts 1:8: “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”

Hebrews 12:1: “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us…”

As Bud and I grow older (he is now in his eighties and I am in my seventies), we value our friends more and more. We feel most blessed to have an abundance of them. Since we receive an enormous amount of mail with over 87,000 unique visitors to the BibleResources.org website each month, it is impossible for us to reply to each one personally; however, we do address our mail with auto responders and answer as many as possible.

Thank you for your many kind words and your prayers for us. We greatly appreciate it. I read the scripture below recently and it reminded me to always be thankful and rejoice in the fact that our names are written in heaven. We not only have authority in the world over the evil spirits in it, but the Lord told us to rejoice and be thankful that our names are written in the books of heaven! Praise God! Let us all who have God as our Father and Jesus as our savior, be most thankful for this reality on this Thanksgiving Day.

Luke 10:20 “Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.”

May the Lord Jesus grant you His grace and love as you celebrate the Thanksgiving Holidays and may you be blessed as you gather with your family and friends. May He protect you and your loved ones in these perilous times. We claim Psalm 91 over you.

If we apply God’s Wisdom, we will encompass both liberal and conservative thought properly and be able to solve our problems.  In the realm of politics, the result will allow both conservative and liberal parties to work together in harmony for the good of the nation. Biblical thought always brings healing.  However, for those who are willing, it will also bring change and the biggest change needs to be the attitude of our hearts and conforming our way to the ways of God and that means we must repent and ask God to forgive us and change us individually and then He will begin to change our nation corporately.

1 Corinthians 1:24 “But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the Wisdom of God.”

2 Chronicles 7:14 “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

Fear is the first reason. We are afraid of the consequences if we tell the truth. Yielding to fear shows a lack of trust in God to take care of the situation. If we yield to God and do it His way He will usually give us favor with those that we fear. The other reason is pride. We are prideful and concerned about what men will think of us (desiring man’s approval instead of God’s approval).

As you know, we are called to be cyber-space missionaries. There is a big world out there and so many people want to know the truth and that truth is found in Jesus. We are celebrating the birth of Jesus this time of year, but that reminds us of the real mission of Christ coming to the earth and that was to bring the good news of the gospel. That news is that Jesus saves!

We are praising God for all that is happening.  In the beginning, we wondered how God could use the Internet for ministry. We now understand, as thousands of people have come to the Prayer Room to leave their requests and they are receiving answers to their prayers.  We are so grateful for all of our intercessors who help us in praying for these needs. We have books in Kindle and teaching videos on YouTube now that can be accessed from the website.

Others come to read the Bible in their own language.  We have the Bible in over 140 languages posted on our site.  Lately we have been getting a lot of response from people in the Muslim countries who are curious about the man called Jesus.  During this season of the year when everyone’s attention is drawn to the birth of that Man, we have more opportunities to tell the world about salvation in His name. We have many testimonies of those who have come to this website and have found the answers they are seeking.  As we celebrate Christmas, let us remember the reason for the season and not forget to reach out in our giving, as God gave us the gift of His son, Jesus.

Thousands read the Bible Answers posted on the site.  Multitudes use the Search the Bible page to read scripture daily.  With all this activity we receive hundreds of e-mail.  We are here to help you find your needed Bible answers.

Bud and I fill in the gaps by wearing numerous hats.  Bud has a telephone counseling ministry, (at least it seems that way), as he is on the phone much of the day.  He manages the business end of the ministry. I write the devotionals, articles, answer as much mail as possible and stay on the computer much of the day (and night). Together, we manage the office, the computer projects, the ministry needs, etc.  My heart really desires more time to pray and write.  I have numerous articles that are incomplete that need to be posted on the site, so pray that I can get these done. Please pray for us to have God’s strength, health, wisdom and love to accomplish all that He calls us to do.

We just wanted to share from our hearts some of the things going on here.  May the Lord bless you and your family in this coming New Year.  I feel that God’s people who are seeking Him with their whole hearts are going to experience great breakthroughs in the coming year. Many of you have been going through hard times and I believe that soon you will receive the victories you need.  Remember, our Lord is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

Hebrews 11:6: “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”
